Clearing Up Common Misconceptions: The Truth About Branding
Discovering the Customer-Driven Nature of Branding
Welcome to my blog! Today I want to talk about branding and clear up some common misconceptions. Many people use the term "branding" interchangeably with things like logo design, identity design, and typography, but the truth is that branding is not any of these things. In fact, branding is not even a promise that a company makes to its customers. Instead, a brand is a customer's gut feeling about a product, service, or company. It's what ends up in their head and heart, and it's something that they create for themselves based on the raw materials that a business presents to them. Essentially, a brand is the reputation of a business, and it can be slightly different for each person in an audience. It's important for designers to understand that branding is not something that they are creating, but rather it is the result of their work. If designers don't start with this understanding, they may not know what they are doing and their efforts may be misguided.
